FEBRUARY RECAP

Flying out to LA for Grammy weekend, attending Fashion Week’s great runway shows with a peek at the explosion of brilliant colors, textures and designs for Spring, watching “Don’t Play With Me” crest 300,000 views, all of the fantastic red carpet events…I think it’s safe to say that February has been a fantastic month. With Spring on the horizon, I look forward to all of the excitement that comes with it! Here’s to Spring and all of the surprises it has in store for my music, fashion and wildly warmer weather!

Here are some photos from the Adrian Alicia Haute Couture Fashion Show at Landmark On The Park in NYC on 2/16/12:

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge Black History Month. Since the themes surrounding Black History Month have all but been exhausted I thought I would share a few names of those who have greatly inspired me as an artist and the words that immediately come to mind. There are so many who have influenced me that it almost seems unfair to name just a few but here goes. Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Zora Neale Hurston, Cab Calloway, Toni Morrison, Josephine Baker and Duke Ellington. All icons in their own right have done so much to shape their respective generations and through their past contributions have given exponentially to the future. They each represent unrelenting courage, innovation, creativity, wisdom, originality, artistry, vision and imagination. It is thanks to them and those like them that we progress and that true artistry can be built upon and shared by all.

Los Angeles Trip & The Grammy’s

When I heard that I would be traveling to LA for Grammy week you could say I was excited. The East coast chill was starting to take its toll…but even though the promise of sun drenched days in LaLa land danced in my head, it was merely a perk. What’s really exciting to me about LA is that it seems everyone you meet is somehow involved in the entertainment industry. It’s like being in a city full of your peers, except, primarily platinum blonde and in other ways, slightly altered — but peers nonetheless. Even though I would be there for just a quick weekend, I knew it would be a blast.

The “getting there” part is always a drag. In the plane I wished they would just fly faster! It’s something about that last hour on the plane that makes me stir crazy. Just as my iPod mini was running on fumes the plane touched down. Finally I was there. Although the flying experience would have been much more ideal if only it were a three hour flight instead of nearly double (and sometimes more!) Then again, there seems to be something inherently foreboding about any “three-hour tour”. So, I suppose the six long hours will have to do.

So, the “primary” event of the trip was just that. Primary Wave Talent Management and Violator Management, which recently merged, were throwing a big Pre-Grammy party, which turned out to be truly beyond fabulous! Why does it seem like LA always does it better? At least where parties are concerned!

The venue in Beverly Hills at The Bazaar was absolutely gorgeous. There were multiple rooms to mingle and even an outdoor area along with heating lamps to complete the LA experience. Did I mention the food? Unbelievable! Even though I did not sample everything offered, the presentation alone was enough for me to give it at least four stars! Although, admittedly I did not do a full tasting of the savory offered, I did of course sample the sweets…and it was spectacular! From cupcake towers, to white chocolate filigree lollipops sprinkled with chili power, to dark chocolate caramel squares topped with gold covered peanuts. I was in heaven.

After opening for Cee Lo Green in Florida, it was fantastic to meet up with him again at the party—Still trying to decide if his comment that I looked “dangerous” was a complement or otherwise…If you’re not sure, always assume it to be flattery! Must have been my awesome neon and dark green scuba-esque fitting slinky dress (thank-you Shopbop.com), which I amped up with a wild clip-on hair strip of platinum/neon/pastel/rainbow craziness! Perfect for NIVEA’s Million Moments of Touch Photoboth where I’m pretty sure I took a few too many photos! But when the booth’s technology makes every shot look “ photoshoot worthy”, how can you resist? Especially when they are printing out the photos on site right before your very eyes! Check out a few of my Photobooth shenanigans below:

All in all, the night was just fabulous. I also got to meet the fantastic Curly Nikki who’s website I love!! (www.curlynikki.com) As the night was winding down, I truly did not want to leave. I thought about stuffing as many chocolate squares as possible into my tiny evening clutch, but ultimately decided against it, not just because there’s nothing fashionable about melted chocolate lining your vintage bag, but also because there were still plenty of guests there and I didn’t want to deprive them of their share of treats! Not to mention how that might affect my “image”—or should I say, my silhouette!

So, as my car pulled up and I climbed in, I waved goodbye not just to the wonderful party that night but also to LA. Until next time…
